L&I Benefits

L&I Property Damage Reimbursement

Does L&I Compensation Cover Property Damage?

One of the benefits available to injured workers with an open workers’ compensation claim is L&I property damage reimbursement benefits.

You may be reimbursed for personal property lost or damaged during a workplace accident. To get reimbursed, complete and submit the Statement for Miscellaneous Services.

Limitations to Compensation for Damage to Property

Property damage coverage is limited to the following:

  • Prescription eyeglasses or contacts
  • Clothing
  • Shoes or boots
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, foot and eye protection, protective hearing devices (earplugs, muffs), hard hats, respirators, and full-body suits.
Construction personal protective equipment in a pile.

Why Doesn’t L&I Cover All Property Damage?

When L&I denies requests for these benefits, the best move is often to pay for the clothing or gear outright and seek reimbursement later in the process after the proof has been developed and the claim has been approved. In this case, be sure to keep the receipt or proof of purchase for the items so you can give them to L&I later on.
