On or about April 3, 2026, Frontwave Credit Union (“Frontwave”) received notification from one of its service providers regarding an inadvertent disclosure of non‑public member information. According to the Notice of Data Breach sent to affected individuals, the incident involved the unintended sharing of certain personal information with another credit union through a service provider environment.
For over 70 years, Frontwave has grown from serving military personnel to more than 132,000 members worldwide. Today, with 18 branch locations and international ATM access, anyone who lives or works in California in San Diego, Riverside, Imperial, or San Bernardino counties is eligible to join.
Upon notification, Frontwave stated that it worked promptly with its service provider to investigate the incident and address the disclosure. Frontwave reported that it confirmed the disclosure was isolated in nature and that the credit union which received the information has since deleted the affected data.
Following its review, Frontwave determined that personal information belonging to certain members may have been disclosed as a result of the incident. Notification letters dated April 24, 2026, were sent to impacted individuals after Frontwave identified those whose information was involved.
As part of its response, Frontwave reported that it is working with its service provider to resolve the issue and prevent similar incidents in the future. The credit union also implemented measures intended to reduce the risk of further unauthorized disclosures.
Frontwave stated that it is offering complimentary identity protection and identity restoration services for 12 months through Experian IdentityWorks℠ to affected individuals who enroll by the deadline listed in their notification letter.
At the time of notification, Frontwave indicated that it was not aware of any actual misuse of the affected information. However, the credit union acknowledged that sensitive personal data may have been disclosed and encouraged recipients to remain vigilant.
If you received a Notice of Data Breach from Frontwave Credit Union, it confirms that your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.
What information is involved in the Frontwave Credit Union Data Breach?
Compromised information may include:
First Name
Last Name
Social Security Number
Other Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
Your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) includes sensitive data that can be used to identify you, such as your name and Social Security number. When PII is exposed in a data breach or disclosure incident, it may be misused for identity theft, financial fraud, or other forms of unauthorized activity.
Because Social Security numbers are permanent identifiers, exposure of this information may create a long‑term risk, even if no immediate fraud is detected. Individuals whose information was involved are encouraged to monitor financial accounts, review credit reports, and follow the guidance provided in their notification letter.
Frontwave also encourages affected individuals to enroll in the offered identity monitoring and restoration services, consider placing fraud alerts or credit freezes, and report suspicious activity promptly.
Financial institutions and their service providers are responsible for taking reasonable steps to protect sensitive consumer information. When personal data is disclosed—whether through human error, vendor failure, or system issues—affected individuals may have legal rights, which vary by state and depend on the nature of the information involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
If you received a Notice of Data Breach related to the Frontwave Credit Union incident, your personal, and potentially highly sensitive identifying, information may be at risk.
