On June 7, 2025, Towne Mortgage Company (“Towne Mortgage”) identified unusual activity indicating potential unauthorized access to its network. According to the notice, this activity suggested that an external actor may have copied certain data from the company’s systems.

Upon discovering the incident, Towne Mortgage immediately took steps to secure its network environment and launched a prompt and thorough investigation. The company worked closely with external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling data security incidents to determine the full extent of the intrusion and assess what information may have been impacted.

Following an extensive forensic investigation and manual document review, Towne Mortgage determined on October 14, 2025, that certain personal information belonging to affected individuals may have been included within the impacted data. The compromised information was part of materials contained within the company’s network at the time of the incident.

After completing its investigation, Towne Mortgage began issuing written notification letters to impacted individuals. The notification letters were dated November 13, 2025, and included information about the incident, the types of data involved, and the identity protection services being offered.

Towne Mortgage Company, founded 1982, is a Troy, Michigan-based full-service lender and servicer with over 40 years of experience. They offer residential mortgage, hybrid retail, and wholesale lending services, focusing on community-based, personalized, and consultation-driven home financing.

The breach involved unauthorized access within Towne Mortgage’s internal network environment by an external actor.

Following the incident, Towne Mortgage reported that it is taking steps to bolster its security safeguards and is providing impacted individuals with twelve (12) months of complimentary credit monitoring, credit reports, credit scores, and proactive fraud assistance services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.
