Flight attendants for Alaska Airlines rejected the tentative contract proposed by their union to implement raises and include pay for boarding time and flight preparation, claiming that it didn’t go far enough to address issues in the flight industry. While the Union and Alaska renegotiate, flight attendants have threatened to implement CHAOS, which stands for Create Havoc Around Our System, a walkout tactic used successfully by Alaska flight attendants over 30 years ago. Last month, OSHA proposed a new rule regarding heat-related illnesses and accidents in the workplace. If enacted, employers will be required to create a Heat Illness and injury prevention plan, give their workers more paid breaks, and provide adequate shade and water, among other provisions.
