Through its investigation, Thornton Township determined that an unknown actor may have accessed or acquired certain files from its network between March 10, 2025, and March 18, 2025. Due to the time required to analyze the affected data and confirm the presence of personal information, notification to impacted individuals began in April 2026.
Following the incident, Thornton Township reported that it took additional steps to enhance the security of its network environment and implemented safeguards designed to help prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
