Universal Plant Services Breach Exposed Social Security Numbers, Driver’s License Numbers, and Financial Account Information
Universal Plant Services, LLC, a company that provides workforce and maintenance services to industrial plants, has notified individuals that someone outside the company gained unauthorized access to its computer network.
According to the notice, the unauthorized access happened between June 8 and June 12, 2026. Universal Plant Services says it became aware of the activity on June 12, 2026, and brought in outside forensic specialists to investigate. The company finished reviewing what data was affected on July 14, 2026, about a month after the access was discovered, and began notifying individuals and the California Attorney General’s office roughly a month after that.
A Combination Built for Identity Theft
Universal Plant Services’ notice says the exposed information may include a person’s first and last name combined with their Social Security number, driver’s license number, or financial account information. That combination gives someone most of what they need to do real damage: a Social Security number can be used to open new credit, a driver’s license number can be used to create fake identification, and financial account information provides a direct path to a person’s money.
A Broader Data Set in the Company’s Own Regulatory Filing
Universal Plant Services’ notice letter to individuals describes a narrower set of exposed data than the company’s own filing with the California Attorney General, which also referenced payroll, tax, and health information among the categories affected. That likely reflects the fact that different individuals had different information exposed depending on their relationship to the company, such as current employees versus contract workers. Emery | Reddy is looking into the full scope of what was exposed and for whom.
What Information Was Exposed
- First and last name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account information
Per the company’s regulatory filing, payroll, tax, and health information may also be involved for some individuals.
What Universal Plant Services Is Offering
Universal Plant Services is offering complimentary identity monitoring services through Kroll. The notice does not specify how many months of coverage are included. The service includes single-bureau credit monitoring with alerts, unlimited consultation with a Kroll fraud specialist, and identity theft restoration support. Your Information Is at Risk
A Social Security number, driver’s license number, and financial account information together cover nearly everything someone needs to open new credit, create fraudulent identification, or access existing accounts directly. This is one of the more dangerous data combinations that can be exposed in a breach.
Do You Have Legal Options?
