Attackers broke into a vendor that Warp relies on and reached AI agent logs and user data. Warp says roughly 1% of its users may be affected, and it has not said whether code, prompts or passwords were in those logs.

Warp is an AI-powered terminal and agentic development environment used by software developers. The company behind it is Denver Technologies, Inc., which does business as Warp. It is based in New York.

On a Friday in late October 2026, Warp learned that attackers were exploiting a third-party vendor in its systems, according to BleepingComputer. Warp CEO Zach Lloyd described it as “active and narrowly targeted exploitation.” Lloyd said Warp detected the activity within hours and moved to stop it. BleepingComputer reported the incident on October 27, 2026.

How the Warp Breach Happened

The attackers did not break into Warp directly. They went through a vendor, a company that provides a service inside Warp’s systems. Warp has not named the vendor or explained the weakness the attackers used.

Early analysis suggests the attack was run by “an agent swarm,” according to BleepingComputer. An agent swarm is a group of AI programs working together to find and exploit weak points. Warp says it has:

  • Brought in the security firm CrowdStrike to investigate
  • Informed law enforcement
  • Contacted the vendor about the weakness
  • Notified the users it believes were affected

Why AI Agent Logs Matter

Warp says the exposed data includes “agent decision logs.” These are records of what Warp’s AI agent did while helping a developer. Logs like these can show the commands an agent ran, the files it looked at and the steps it took on a project.

Warp has not said what was inside the exposed logs. It has not confirmed whether they held source code, prompts, API keys, passwords or other secrets. If they did, attackers could try to use that information to reach other accounts or systems. That question is still open.

How Many Users Were Affected?

Warp has not released an exact number. Lloyd said that “roughly 1% of Warp users may have been impacted.” Warp’s website says the product has more than 800,000 users, but the company has not confirmed how many people make up that 1%.

What Information Was Exposed?

According to Warp, the exposed information includes:

  • AI agent decision logs
  • User telemetry (data about how users use the product)

Warp has not said whether names, email addresses, source code, prompts or credentials were included. The investigation is ongoing.

What Is Warp Offering Affected Users?

Warp has not announced credit monitoring or identity protection as of October 28, 2026. The company has advised users to watch their account activity and to be careful with unexpected messages. Users who received an email from Warp should keep it and read it closely for any updates.

Your Information Is at Risk

Developer tools often touch sensitive systems. A log that captures a single API key or access token can open the door to cloud accounts, code repositories or paid AI services. Attackers also use news of a breach to send fake emails that look like they come from the company.

Affected users can take steps now:

  • Rotate API keys, access tokens and passwords used in Warp sessions
  • Review cloud, code repository and AI provider accounts for unusual activity or charges
  • Turn on two-factor authentication where available
  • Be careful with emails, texts or calls that mention the Warp incident
  • Keep the notice email Warp sent

Do You Have Legal Options?

Companies that collect user data have a legal duty to protect it, including when they hand that data to vendors. When that duty is not met, affected users may have legal rights and remedies.
