As the fight for equal pay continues, Attorney Tim Emery reminds the courts that, “Pay transparency in Washington is a civil right.” The Equal Pay and Opportunities Act (EPOA) requires that employers in Washington state list pay range and benefits information on their job postings. Employers hide such information from applicants in order to “pay women and persons of color less,” according to Tim. If an applicant goes in with little to no information about what to expect as a salary, it is much easier for the companies to get away with wage discrimination, paying the worker less then they deserve. Tim and his team are showing employers throughout Washington state and the rest of the country that they will be held accountable for violations to salary transparency laws.
