Safeway Distribution Center in Auburn Fined for Violating New Law

Auburn’s Safeway Distribution Center was fined over $11,000 by L&I for quota-related safety and workplace violations. Safeway was found to have tracked workers’ breaks, movements, and activities down to the minute to enforce quotas that violate Washington’s laws protecting warehouse workers. Read more.

New Laws Affecting Workers In Washington

Gov Ferguson signed into law more bills that will affect workers across Washington. ESHB 1644 establishes penalties for employers who violate child labor laws and minor employment restrictions, including fines for missing permits and industrial injuries or death of minors, as well as the revocation of minor working permits. SSB 5191 establishes rules for PFML programs for employees under collective bargaining agreements. Read more here and here.
